PROJECT 4: STANDALONE COMMUNITY

Project 4 is the biggest project in our designing studio that needs all the student in designing studio work together to make a master model that have size about 1/8 of the studio. This project is divided into 4 tasks.

The first task is making a master model and makes a site analysis. The site given is the area in Aman Lake and Harapan Lake. We also required to makes a LCP and need to submit together with the master model and present it.

After that, we proceed to new task which all of the groups in the studio need make a layout plan and present it. The best layout will choose for the studio layout and make it happen in the master model. Thus, we are required to change the master model layout.

Finish with it; we are proceeding with individual unit that can suit in the master layout. However, my group is given different task which need us to make an existing building such as wakaf. I have assigned to design a wakaf also known gazebo.

The design using contemporary concept which is combining the traditional Kedah style with solar powered. The solar power is used to moving the fan in the wakaf. This wakaf using bumbung Limas of Kedah to make it suit to the community in the site.

Then I have to choose the suitable site in the layout plan. This project is really about working together as a whole and it is link with the planning of site development.

The closure for this studio is the exhibition that held on 9 Friday 2010.

PPROJECT 3: SKIN/ENVELOP/SHELL

In this project, the students are required to design a skin for the functional space from the previous project. We can say that this project is prolonged from project 2. In this project, even though we have to design its skin, we have to consider about the other aspect in designing such as ventilation, wind direction, path of the sun, lighting and also the geography. Which mean that we have to consider and study the suitable site in chosen area for the skin.

It is related from the first semester of study where it consisting actor (people), rules and site. The people or the actor of course me is the one who designing and give idea and I have to follow the rule given so it can fulfill the requirement of this project. The site that I have choose also must follow the rule of nature such as the wind flow and make sure the site is suitable and its design also can be blended with its surrounding.

The skin design, I use the concept of octagon and capsule and combine it together and forming the capsule room. Event though I have design it like a caravan without a wheel, it still moveable from site to another site. This also adopted from the container room which it can move to another site according to the owner taste. In other word, it is portable.

As for it concept design, I choose octagon because it was the basic shape in Islamic architecture. Research state that, octagon shape can spread out spiritual energy, either positive or negative energy depending on the users of this room. Since this room used as a studio, it hope that can spread out positive energy, such as creative mind and smart in doing task to its surrounding.

The capsule concept, we all know the capsule often used in medicine and remedy industry, so I used it in my design. The capsule concept means that this design is portable and can be a landscape decoration in garden or near the hill.

This project are really revising me about the last semester about intention, act and product and I can still remember it and use for my principles of life.

ROJECT 2: ONE-FUNCTIONAL SPACE
This project are required us to design own interior space in given area that is not more than 4 modular but the height are not more than 2 modular. 1 modular given area 2400mm x 2400mm. Each of the space must have function on its own even use more than 1 modular. This project required us to submit the drawing and also the model with scale 1:20. This design is taking aspect of functional space, ventilation, in and out and also human proportion.
I choose studio and bedroom as my space and I have to design it so that the space can stand on its. I integrate this space and forming a new space which is can be transformable neither to bedroom, studio, meeting room or praying room. This concept is adapted from the famous rock band studio, Linkin Park where they have a room shifting studio bedroom. It is very interesting idea of them because it can save space and multi-functional room.

As for the design, I’m using the contemporary concept were I’m combining traditional design and modern design. The windows of this design using cantilever as for the ventilation and its finishing are using modern material and design such as tiles. The furniture also using the modern design which is can be folded and also transformable such as wardrobe that can be a bed.
The desk in this room is a hybrid one where it has a modern design with traditional touch of material and finishing.

This design is especially for designing student such as architect because they sometimes sleep in the studio in order to finish their task and assignment. This room also suitable for meeting place because the furniture such as chair and table can be folded and keep it under the desk.
This project makes me realize that all the spaces that we have around us has it own ruction as long as we not destroy the space using our hand. The space also can improve it and creatively design it and it can be multipurpose spaces where it can use for more than one activity for its function.

PROJECT 1: PET HOME
A very first project given is Pet Home where we are being required to setup a pet house together with the existence of the occupant to the house designed and built which is the pet. I have chosen snail as my pet and try the design it home properly and make sure it feels like the real place for it. I manage to design its place like the natural habitat which is consist grassy area and water for humidity.

I choose snail because it can be describe as unique animal. Even the snail move very slow and only active at night, it has some interesting characteristic on it. We can see the snail always bring it shell anywhere and it is also can be seen as it shelter. As a metaphor the shell can be seen as a responsibilities that one need to carry in their life neither they want it or not. It indicates that we have a responsibility in this life that we carry as the reason human being live in this world. Without it then there is no reason to human to live.

The concept I use for the snail house is the natural habitat which mean I adopt the natural habitat of snail into my design. My design is success because I have inspected that the snail never get out of its roofless home that I design.


This project have a great impact on me, I can see that every design that we are made neither interior, exterior or even the largest scope of design, we have to make sure the design can accepted by our surrounding whether human, flora and fauna. Plus, the design also must be suit for the lifestyle of the occupant and also the community.

This project also makes me realize that we must study of the culture so we can determine whether the design that we make can integrated with the people around it. The longer we stay connected to something, the more we know about it. These elements are very important due to customer is always right and comfortability is what we seek for.
